Map (Araschnia levana)
Quite a big and beautiful butterfly we found in the Veluwe woods. What's special about this map butterfly is that it has two completely different appearances. On this photo you see a second generation individual. If you'd look up a first gen specimen, you would conclude that they could not be further apart.

The Map is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is common throughout the lowlands of central and eastern Europe, and is expanding its range in western Europe.
