Corn Bunting (Emberiza calandr)
I was out on a very hat and very long country walk searching for Skylark, when I came across this Corn Bunting and a few others - (a Sacrifice of Buntings, anyone?)
The Corn Bunting, once common is now a rare treat in many areas.
From a distance they can be mistaken for the similarly coloured Skylark, so it wasn't until I got home and watched this video that I realised what I had filmed:
The corn bunting is a passerine bird in the bunting family Emberizidae, a group now separated by most modern authors from the finches, Fringillidae. This is a large bunting with heavily steaked buff-brown plumage. The sexes are similar but the male is slightly larger than the female. Its range extends from Western Europe and North Africa across to northwestern China.
