Harendong monyet / jambu tangkalak flower, Bellucia axinanthera
Jambu tangkalak is the name of a type of fruit tree belonging to the Senggani tribe (Melastomataceae). In West Java , this fruit is also known as jamolok , harendong gede, harendong raja , harendong monyet or commonly known as harendong .
In Spanish it is known as guayabilla or pera . While the scientific name is Bellucia axinanthera
It is estimated that Tangkalak guava was imported from Costa Rica with the intention of being used for its fruit. This tree grows quickly, and at the age of one year it can bear fruit as long as it gets enough sunlight . Suitable for the climate in Indonesia , these plants then spread and spread everywhere. It may also have been planted in several places as a ground cover crop, to prevent erosion . At suitable locations, guava tangkalak quickly become weeds that dominate the lower layer of secondary forest . This weed can be found, for example in Bogor , Sukabumi , South Sumatra, Jambi and West Kalimantan .
The fruit is preferred by frugivores such as civets , squirrels , monkeys and various types of birds . At the same time, these animals act as seed dispersers.
In Bogor, the broad guava leaves are used as food wrappers during the feast ; while the wood is used as fire wood .
Bellucia pentamera is a tropical flowering plant originally from Middle and South America, yet naturalized in other parts of the world for its fruits.
