This was taken in bright sun, beautiful ruby color in the wings, gold around the back edges, green abdomen and stripes on the thorax. It was purched on a long bent stick over the San Antonio River.

      1. Probably this one was a rogue male, although, the members of this family usually tend to stay fairway near the waterline. The phenology of odonata is quite remarkable. The right place in the right time of the day is very important to a full understanding of their behaviors. As a matter of fact almost 90% of odonata lifecycle is placed underwater, as nymphs. Relating to other Calopterygidae, most certainly, there’s a waterline nearby, shadowed by trees where they came from. You will find them again for sure :) Posted 4 years ago

The American Rubyspot is a damselfly of the family Calopterygidae. Males have a lustrous red head and thorax. The abdomen of both genders is brilliant green. The female may have either green or copper colored marks on the thorax.
