Four-spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata)
I photographed and filmed this male Four-spotted Chaser on a very breezy day in June, hanging on to this reed stalk, surveying it's territory and probably on the look-out for females to pounce upon as they happen by.
Why do I believe this is a male, when the colouring of the two sexes are almost identical?
Watch this video and read the commentary underneath and all will be revealed (so to speak) :

"Libellula quadrimaculata", known in Europe as the four-spotted chaser and in North America as the four-spotted skimmer, is a dragonfly of the family Libellulidae found widely throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
