  1. This appears to be the only trogon at Paujil and its mewling whistles are heard daily, though it's not that easy to spot. I missed a great opportunity to get a photo back in february (broken camera and all), and was really hoping to manage it in August.
I was having a snack on a sand bank, and suddenly spotted this fine male on the other side of the river. It was distant, but gave me my first photos of the species. Then it moved to a nicer branch, a bit closer and in better light. And then, almost unbelievably and for no clear reason (except that I must have a birding guardian angel), it flew across the river and perched in the tree right next to me, where it showed off for a couple minutes!!

    1. You always seem to find the gems when not actively looking. It's a sign from the universe to not try so hard. Posted 4 years ago
      1. I also relate to this experience: the best spottings happen when you less expect it! Posted 4 years ago

          1. Well sure, unless you're going to a lek or a roost that gives you reasonable degree of certainty of finding what you're looking for in a given spot, there's always a certain amount of serendipity involved. But knowledge of voice, habits etc certainly give you an edge when it comes to certain tricky species. Posted 4 years ago
