I've been posting recently to iNaturalist (chanterellerin@gmail.org) and the mycologists encourage gill shots etcetera, which is mostly the only way to possibly get an i.d. from photos (photos alone don't often give firm results for the more diverse groups).       1. Yes, gill/pore shots, as well as stipe and bulb photos are very important. Habitat too.

        We don't live in the same area of the country, but Lisa and I both have growing fungi lists here on JD. Check them out :). We love mushies!

      1. Definitely the way to go regarding fungi, and believe me, I've made the mistake of only making a frontal shot plenty of times :) The nice thing about this shot is that it's 2 in 1! Posted 4 years ago
