  2. Great documentation as always. It has me thinking that given a flower like this will be attended many times a day, the success rate for a crab spider must be pretty high? Posted 4 years ago
    1. I've sat watching them on more than the odd occasion.

      The Crab spider seems not to always pounce immediately and or sometimes hides underneath the head of the flower, so by the time it reacts the intended victim has moved on.

      But otherwise, I think you're probably right.

"Misumena vatia" is a species of crab spider with holarctic distribution. In North America, where it is the largest and best-known flower spider, it is called the goldenrod crab spider or flower spider, because it is commonly found hunting in goldenrod sprays in the autumn.
