  1. I believe this is a Mascarene Ridged Frog (Ptychadena mascareniensis) based on these sources:

    Mantellas are much more colourful, with larger spots rather than a narrow stripe.

        1. Hehe, oh how I wish to return soon :) As said, likely it won't be in the next few years, I have this "other side" to cater for :)

          I like that link a lot, I encountered it once before in doing online research. Don't count on me crossing of that list though, the frogs I posted are the only ones we saw in 3 weeks of Madagascar, and even these were pulled from a pond by the guide.

The Mascarene Grass Frog or Mascarene Ridged Frog is a species of frog in the Ptychadenidae family.

It is found in Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Réunion, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
