Olive Forest Racer (Dendrophidion dendrophis) posing by a log This species looks like a long thin arboreal snake, and this individual was indeed found at night sleeping in vegetation. But active individuals are usually (always?) found on the ground, so it seems to be a long thin terrestrial snake instead. This one was detained overnight and then released where it had been found. 1. Stunning! The yellow-ish glow, does it have anything to do with their name? Posted 4 years ago
    1. Probably so -- they are definitely named for the overall greenish tinge (at least compared to other related species), and that yellow-ish color between the scales certainly is part of that. Posted 4 years ago
  2. This is a super image John. A real beauty, from the enlarged eye, the subtle colouration/markings and slender form. Posted 4 years ago
    1. Thanks Ruth! These are definitely really beautiful snakes. Posted 4 years ago

Dendrophidion dendrophis is a diurnal colubrid known from Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and French Guiana. The long slender body lead some researchers to conclude that it is an arboreal species, but observations of active individuals strongly indicate that it is primarily terrestrial.
