  1. Gorgeous moth, and super clear shot, Peter! Posted 4 years ago
    1. I didn't see your comment before...see mine below. What do you think?

      1. Amastus supersimilis definitely looks similar, but what do you mean specifically with the leg remark? Posted 4 years ago
        1. Amastus supersimilis has white legs, while Amastus coccinator has darker legs. Posted 4 years ago
          1. ...except that doesn't seem to be true, so never mind.... Posted 4 years ago
            1. Heh, know what you mean, lots of variability in example photos, which could include misidentifications. Posted 4 years ago
              1. Yes! It is confusing because some have white legs, while others have dark legs. It seems like this would be species-specific, rather than individual variation. But, I just keep finding conflicting images. Perhaps there is another way to differentiate between the species. Posted 4 years ago
                1. Or...between sexes of the same species? Posted 4 years ago
                  1. There's that factor to consider too! Posted 4 years ago
  2. Cool! Amastus coccinator or Amastus supersimilis. I think Amastus supersimilis because of the legs. Posted 4 years ago
  3. Great sleuthing. Is there a consensis? I can't find images that clearly distinguish the two. Posted 4 years ago
    1. I also can't figure out how to distinguish the two species. Posted 4 years ago
      1. Oh ok thank you Christine. Certainly A. supersimilis seems to be far less frequently reported. Posted 4 years ago
  4. The head and thorax markings/colours contrasted against the wings are unusual and so eye-catching on this moth. Posted 4 years ago
