Madagascar girdled lizard at Kirindi

This zonosaurus was sunbathing the entire day on a rock right in front of our accommodation in Kirindi. Occasionally it would quickly run into its nearby hole whenever a mongoose came by.

The Madagascar girdled lizard or Madagascar plated lizard is a species of lizard in the family Gerrhosauridae.
It is found in Madagascar and the Seychelles. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, dry savanna, moist savanna, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, sandy shores, arable land, pastureland, rural gardens, and urban areas.
