This little gem was sitting on the mailbox waiting to welcome us home after a short holiday :o)
Had seen one of these bumping about in the garden a week before, but didn't have an opportunity to take pictures, so here it is to complement the overview for 504Jane's garden , as well as that there was no image with wings closed on JD jet ...
The hummingbird hawk-moth is a species of hawk moth found across temperate regions of Eurasia. The species is named for its similarity to hummingbirds, as they feed on the nectar of tube-shaped flowers using their long proboscis while hovering in the air; this resemblance is an example of convergent evolution.
