  1. A fairly large hermit, endemic to the eastern foothills of Peru. Like all hermits, it's quite a curious bird, and as they zip through the undergrowth, they will often stop and hover in front of your face for a couple of seconds before taking off again. But this bird was something else: it circled me non-stop for a good five minutes, twittering all the while! It provided a good exercise trying to get a photo of it as it would hover in one spot for a couple seconds, then move a meter or two, again and again!

Koepcke's hermit is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is found only in Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. It is threatened by habitat loss.
