Galium tinctorium (Stiff Marsh Bedstraw)
Fruit capsules (schizocarps) of Galium tinctorium. These will darken as they ripen.
Despite this and several other native species of Galium being classed as noxious weeds by various jurisdictions they are not. The mis-classification comes from listing "Galium spp." (as opposed to naming the actual species) as a noxious weed on these lists and from incorrect synonymies.
''Galium tinctorium'', the stiff marsh bedstraw, is a species of plants in the Rubiaceae. It is widespread and common across the eastern part of North America, from Texas to Labrador and from Minnesota to Florida, plus eastern and central Mexico and the Dominican Republic. It is classed as a noxious weed in some parts of the northeastern United States.
