
A Pycnoporellus!
Yes, they really were that bright orange. These were growing on opposite sides of the same alder log that was lying on the mixed forest floor. From my observations (the only thing I have to go on) my first guess the ID would be Pycnoporellus fulgens. Quite a striking mushroom.

Although I'm terrible at identifying fungi, I checked many reference photos and see the resemblance, including where it grows on, and distribution matches as well. Let's ID at least tentatively. Posted 4 years ago
