  1. This is a pretty atypical Cranioleuca, and at least one genetic study found that it was more closely related to the Thripophaga softtails. To be continued...
    Still, leaving aside the taxonomic squabbles, it's usually pretty skulking so I was quite glad to finally get a decent photo.

The speckled spinetail is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical swamps.
