    1. Yes it is because of the resemblance to a donkey but we have more. Some more
      Diuris, commonly known as donkey orchids, bee orchids, nanny goat orchids or pansy orchids, is a genus of more than sixty species of flowering plants in the orchid family, Orchidaceae and is endemic to Australia, apart from one species endemic to Timor.

      1. Thanks, Ernst. Orchids are one of my favorite family of wildflowers. In Bulgaria there are about 96 recorded species, of which I have photographed only 25! Hope next year to find more. Posted 4 years ago

''Diuris parvipetala'', commonly known as slender purple donkey orchid, is a species of orchid that is endemic to eastern Australia. It usually has two leaves at its base and up to nine relatively small, whitish to mauve flowers with purple markings. It is an uncommon species found in northern New South Wales and southern Queensland.
