Gecko on Kirindi forest floor at night
I love the excitement of wildlife night tours, and Kirindi is one of the best places on earth to do one. Take note where you walk though. As you gaze into the trees in search of nocturnal lemurs, do not miss out on the forest floor, that has an overwhelming amount of wildlife as well. They are hard to spot, but there are many geckos, spiders and snakes crawling around your feet :)
Not to worry...none are of any harm to you.

''Hemidactylus mercatorius'' is a species of gecko. There has been confusion between this species and ''Hemidactylus mabouia'', making it difficult to establish the ranges of these species. While the Reptile Database gives ''Hemidactylus mercatorius'' a wide distribution in eastern Africa, the IUCN restricts its native distribution to Madagascar and some other islands in the Indian Ocean .
