Cross orb weaver With decapitated honeybee. According to Pacific Northwest Insects (Merrill A. Peterson, 2018), A. diadematus has PNW-wide distribution, common in gardens W of Cascades and BC Coast Range. This summer after a very wet spring and midsummer (before the horrendous western US forest fires of September) the garden grew many and large orb weavers. Last year, which was much drier, few Araneus and much smaller. Araneus diadematus,European garden spider,Geotagged,Summer,United States Click/tap to enlarge

The spider species "Araneus diadematus" is commonly called the European garden spider, diadem spider, orangie, cross spider and crowned orb weaver. It is sometimes called the pumpkin spider, although this name is also used for a different species, "Araneus marmoreus". It is an orb-weaver spider found in Europe and North America.
