Blue-Green Bottlefly I wonder if this is Calliphoridae - Lucilia. BugGuide shows a very similar fly in San Antonio, Texas, at the zoo, not far from where I live.<br />

  1. Pretty, for a fly ;P. I agree with you that it is likely Lucilia sp. Posted 5 years ago
    1. Yes it does have wonderful colors! Thanks, Christine! Posted 5 years ago
  2. Lucilia coeruleiviridis looks possible, it is described as widespread in your area, so it's a likely candidate. For now, we can go for it as a tentative ID, but again I suggest you to not immediately identify when there's this much uncertainty. Please first make the suggestion in the description. Bottle flies require microscopic examination or a very clear view of the bristles to be absolutely sure. Posted 5 years ago
    1. My apology that I did not convey what I thought was my evidence. I had consulted wikipedia as well, and posted the supplemental photo to show the yellow basicosta of the wing, and the venation of the wings are incomplete as per their description. You are correct though, we can't see the all of the bristles. Posted 4 years ago

''Lucilia coeruleiviridis'', formerly ''Phaenecia coeruleiviridis'', is commonly known as the Blue-green Bottle Fly, because of its metallic blue-green thorax and abdomen.
