Scalloped Oak Moth (Crocallis elinguaria)
When I'm out late at night or in the early hours feeding my long-standing fox friend 'Freddie', I keep a watchful eye on the moths fluttering by, or do a little searching in the woods, while Freddie feeds.
One of those I spotted this beautiful Scallop Moth clinging to a stalk nearby. with it's big dark eyes matched by the spots on each wing.
For some interesting facts on this moth, there's an accompanying video. Forgive the limitations of night shooting apparent in both the video and photo.

The position of the wings in a perfectly horizontal plane. :-) Posted 5 years ago
I only keep the audio if I feel it enhances the video. Too often it's just wind (wrong diet, sorry) or the mechanics of the camera zoom, you can hear. Posted 5 years ago
I can see the confusion.
