Glyphipterix circumscriptella Nectaring on a flower of black-eyed-susan (Rudbeckia hirta) in an old field used as pasture near the edge of a forest. The second year in a row (almost to the day) this moth has been found at this spot. There are upland species of sedge (Carex communis and Carex peckii) growing in the adjacent forest. The larvae of other members of this moth family (Glyphipterigidae) are reported to feed on sedges and this one may also. 1. Hah, was comparing the photos from a year earlier, that's really remarkable. Fantastic moth, may you have a date with it again in 2021. Posted 5 years ago
    1. I'm keping that day free! Posted 5 years ago
      1. Marking the event in my calendar too. As I'm dutch, that makes it fact, do not ever mess with punctuality. Posted 5 years ago
        1. Well, the moth is late. I looked and looked during the week of July 14 until August and not a one. I'm sure they're still around though. Posted 4 years ago
          1. Lol, took me a while to understand the context. Sorry you didn't see it, the seasons have become less predictable. Posted 4 years ago
            1. That is true. We've had a long heat wave and drought punctuated with cool weather and two rainstorms that dumped 2 inches and 5 inches on us. The soil was so dry that the rain just drained away. On May 29 and again on May 30 overnight temperatures fell to 25 F. This after weeks of warmer than usual weather. Posted 4 years ago
              1. Bizarre. I'm afraid we're going to have to get used to it. Posted 4 years ago
                1. Sadly it seems to be "normal" now. We're under a fire watch today but maybe 1/2 inch of rain over the weekend. Posted 4 years ago
                  1. Nothing makes sense anymore. I just wore my winter coat outside at peak summer. Better than a fire watch though! Posted 4 years ago
