  1. Cool! So, the glandular hairs are secretory? Posted 5 years ago
    1. There is a resin-like substance that is produced making them sticky. It seems that there are more glandular hairs in the inflorescence than any other part of plant. Posted 5 years ago
      1. I'll have to remember that so I can check it out the next time I see these! Posted 5 years ago
        1. So what species of Hieracium (woodland or otherwise) are you seeing? Posted 5 years ago
          1. As far as I know, we have a few species of hawkweed in western CT. I honestly don't know what I see because I don't know how to differentiate them. I think the one that I usually see is yellow hawkweed (H. caespitosum). We also have H. piloselloides and H. praealtum. Maybe more? Posted 5 years ago
            1. The non-native yellow ones are a bit confusing but there are some clues to figuring them out in the field. The two native species we haver here in MN (and I suppose you have them too in CT or at least in New England) typically grow in dry open woods or openings in woods. Posted 5 years ago
              1. Good to know. I usually skip photographing many plants because my ID skills are quite bad. But, I forget that there are people out there like you, who can help! Next year, I have a project in which I want to try to photograph different trees around CT during spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Posted 5 years ago
                1. That's a good project especially the winter photography. Posted 5 years ago
                  1. I thought so too. I think it would be valuable to have winter photos. And, going back to the same exact trees will be interesting. Posted 5 years ago
