    1. As best I can remember I collected plants from two different locations in Duluth not thinking about variations like this. There's a third collection from another area that looks typical for the species but grows more aggressively and seems to kill off any other plants that grow with it. These plants seem tame by comparison and grasses and other plants grow just fine with them. Posted 5 years ago

"Helianthus occidentalis" is a species of sunflower native to the Eastern and Central United States. It grows mostly in the Great Lakes Region and in the Ozarks, with additional populations scattered as far as Massachusetts, Texas, and the Florida Panhandle.
