  • Male Cedar Beetle - Callirrhipis marmorea This Cedar Beetle - Callirrhipis marmorea was a cool find and only saw it once but 2 of them on the same night walk.
As I tried to take picture of it, it flew away and landed on my left hand. That was quite a challenge to take a pic of it with one hand on a dSLR on a macro setting.

Was very lucky to see him with the antennae all opened up in a fan like display as they don't do that all the time. I looked up online about them, and most pictures are of it with the antennae folded but can still see that it is not just a single stalk. Since this is a male, they probably use the antennae as a way to attracts the females or using the antennae to 'feel/smell' for pheromones. • Mermaid's Wine Glass - Acetabularia major This Acetabularia major algae looks like underwater fungi, the stalk is around 3-4 cm and the green cap is around 1 cm in diameter. They are usually found in shallow sandy bottom.

Generally, the Acetabularia algae are fondly referred to as Mermaid's Wine Glass.

Despite their look, they are a Single-Cell Organism. It comprised of three anatomical parts: a bottom rhizoid that resembles a set of short roots; a long stalk in the middle; and a top umbrella of branches that may fuse into a cap. The single nucleus of Acetabularia is located in the rhizoid, and allows the cell to regenerate completely if its cap is removed. The caps of two Acetabularia may also be exchanged, even from two different species. In addition, if a piece of the stem is removed, with no access to the nucleus in the rhizoid, this isolated stem piece will also grow a new cap. • Mantis Shrimp, the colour of the ocean packs a powerful, bite-sized punch The Mantis Shrimp is known for two things, its vibrant colour, and it glass-cracking, mask-shattering punch! Shy creatures, I spend some time stalking them and keeping a distance until they calm down and lend me a smile for my camera. I don't get too close though, one swipe of their pincer and there goes my lens! Diving,Fall,Geotagged,Mantis,Odontodactylus scyllarus,Philippines, shrimp

  • SCREAM! This Painted Frogfish - Antennarius pictus is seen with its mouth open, sometimes divers described this as yawn. Frogfishes are favourite subject for underwater macro photographers as they can be difficult to find due to their camouflage. They don't moves much, making it very easy to take close-up pictures of them. However, if you have the patience and spend more time with them, they may not like the attention and will open their mouth as captured in this picture as a way to tell you to buzz off! lol Antennarius pictus,Cebu,Fish,Frogfish,Malapascua,Painted frogfish,Philippines

  • Looking after next generation Like all Anemonefishes/Clownfishes, this pair of Pink Anemonefishes - Amphiprion perideraion, were looking after their babies. They will swim to the cluster of eggs laid/deposited/glued on a rock or rubbles placed next to their Anemone host, using their mouth or pectoral fins, to aerate their eggs or clean it of debris/sands. • I'm a Dragon! Seen during a black water dive, this is most likely a juvenile of Bentstick Pipefish during pelagic phase. Despite a juvenile, it is around 12-15 cm in length but very slender/thin. It has 2 long appendages behind its head and a few others towards the tail. The adult of this species looks more 'ordinary' and usually found on sandy and seagrass bottom, looking like a Stick, hence its common name, Bentstick. • Veined/Coconut Octopus They were called Coconut Octopus as in the early days of their discovery, they were found to using coconut shells as protection and as their 'home'. Subsequent to that, they have been documented to use other hard objects like in the photo, broken cups, glass, bottles and mostly shells of seashells for protection against their predators. • Poteriophorus sp. The meeting with this insect awakened my interest in beetles, it was in April 2019 in the Philippines.
It climbed on my hand while I was drying myself after a bath in the waterfalls nearby.
The photo has been taken by my wife with her Smartphone.
The body is arround 28 mm long, without rostrum...
I've posted it on two forums but no answer regarding the species.
My investigations lead me to either P. imperatrix or P. regulus.
I saw that Albert Kang has an impressive knowledge of Malaysian insects, he could maybe help me ? Geotagged,Philippines,Spring
