  • Dhole with a spotted deer kill After many many trips, i finally get to see an active kill! This spotted deer kill is providing a rolling buffet for a pack of 8 Dhole, each taking it turns to eat and then stand guard! Fantastic! :D #ITF 2015,5D mkIII,Cuon alpinus,Dhole,Geotagged,India,John Rowell,John Rowell Photography,Karnataka,Nagarhole Tiger Reserve,Summer,Tiger Reserve,Wildlife, asia, copyright, wildlife

  • A close shave... We were driving though the forrest on our safari and to cut a long story short, we got stuck, having to get out of the jeep to push it free.... having done so, we looked around laughing, and noticed a pack of dhole 10 meter away, just watching us! I grabbed my camera, fired off a few shots, and got this one... it is as close as i have ever been to one! :) Cuon alpinus,Dhole,Fall,Geotagged,India

  • Wild dog We had received an info, that there was a pack of wild dogs sitting on the road, so we deviated from our usual track and proceeded towards them. After a short drive and there they were Bingo! However, they had dispersed as soon as they saw us. We waited for couple of minutes and observed they were slowly returning back. We were moving slowly towards them and stopped after a while making sure that we are not too close to them. On further observing, notice that out of the pack of 14, there were only 12. After a thorough scanning found that this guy was still feeling hesitant to come out of the bushes. This is the only window I got to photograph. Zooming out a little bit would include trees and was not looking good. So, no cropping done at all. We had taken as many pics as we can of the whole group and we had decided to move further. Out of curiosity, we slowed down a little bit and turned back, all of them have re-grouped again. :-) BR hills,Cuon alpinus,Dhole,Geotagged,India,Spring, wild dog

  • A dog up a tree? :/ Nagarhole National Park in Karnataka, India, is often considered a synonym for "leopard up a tree", but during one trip into the jungle, it was not a cat up a tree that I saw, but a dog! The Indian wild dog, or dhole, is often seen sitting on small mounds or tree stumps in order to get a better vantage point for the surrounding terrain, however, this one brave dhole went a step further, literally, climbing up a dead tree to a hight of about 3-4m. It is rare to see a dhole venture so high. Cuon alpinus,Dhole,Fall,Geotagged,India, adhocphotographer, john rowell, kabini, karnataka, nagarhole
