  • Caterpillar of Euploea boisduvalii I posted pics of this Caterpillars I found in Fiji to another forum for ID help.
Was surprised when told that this was a 'special' observation and he requested for more pics and full resolution pics to have a better look at them and make comparisons. He later posted his analysis/comparisons and mentioned that this is most likely Euploea boisduvalii by eliminating the other known species of Danaids recorded from there.

And if he is correct, then this could possibly be the first published photos of the caterpillar of this species! :)

This person has expertise in immature Butterflies (Caterpillars) and this is his observations :

According to my possibly dated references, the danaids reported for Viti Levu are:
* Danaus plexippus – LOOKS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT
* Euploea boisduvalii – MATCHES TEXTUAL DESCRIPTION
* Euploea leucostictos – LOOKS VERY DIFFERENT
* Euploea lewinii – PATTERNING SAME, BUT NOT COLOR & TUBERCLES, ON RAROTONGA (http://cookislands.bishopmuseum.org/showImage.asp... [http://cookislands.bishopmuseum.org/species.asp?id=9392])
* Euploea tulliolus – 3 PAIRS OF TUBERCLES
* Tirumala hamata – 2 PAIRS OF TUBERCLES
Thus, all considered, either Euploea boisduvalii (my vote; if correct, these being the first "published" photos) or the Fijian subspecies of E. lewinii. Butterly,Caterpillar,Euploea boisduvali,Euploea boisduvalii,Fiji

  • Tawny Nurse Shark - Nebrius ferrugineus This Tawny Nurse Shark - Nebrius ferrugineuscan be very large in size, up to 3 meters length but they are often overlooked when doing the Sharks dives in Fiji as there are other more 'impressive Sharks' like the Bull Sharks.
The Nurse Sharks are also looked as a nuisance by photographers as they tends to stir up the sandy bottom causing not so good condition for photography. Fiji,Nebrius ferrugineus,Nurse Shark,Shark,Tawny Nurse Shark

  • See Through My Eyes! A very small sized Ricaniid Hopper, this possibly Plestia marginata is around 1.5 cm in wingspan. I cannot be 100% sure of the ID as I was told that it is hardly possible to ID them based on pictures. However, Plestia marginata is reported from Fiji.

Information I gather from further checking :
This genus has more than two dozen species primarily distributed in Oceania from Western Samoa to Fiji with a single doubtful record of the type species from "Nov. Holl." provided by Melichar. Its presence in Australia based on this record was doubtful. However the discovery of a single female specimen in ASCU from North Queensland confirms its presence in Australia. The genus is identifiable by the presence of four veins originating from the basal cell.
