![Cypripedium tibeticum, Orchidaceae One of the wonderful Cypripedium species from temperate climates is Cyp. tibeticum. This one was photographed near a village called Chuanzhusi, near Songpan, in Sichuan province, China in June 2012. The flower is 7 cm across.
The area was at 3,600 m elevation and I would expect that it would be probably covered with snow in winter. Obviously Cyp. tibeticum could only be cultivated by growers in a temperate climate who could provide the vernalisation [cold period] required for success.
