  • A Crystal Jelly. A very active sea jelly that was pulsating quite rapidly. Quite a different specimen from our common Moon Jelly.

  • Enjoying a snack! As one of our most common sparrows and also one of the most common birds in our area they are often overlooked or ignored. Their variations in colour from bird to bird are amazing and they are so entertaining to watch while they bicker and scrap even though there is lots of food available. This female is very aware that I am taking the photo! Canada,Dark-eyed junco,Fall,Geotagged,Junco hyemalis

  • A Gathering of Pisaster ochraceus. These Ochre Sea Stars are likely feeding on the barnacles attached to this exposed piling. They are exposed due to the extreme low tide. Up until 2013 this occurrence would have been commonplace but due to the “sea star wasting disease” it has been rare or nonexistent. Up until now! The Sunflower Seastar with its many arms have yet to recover. It’s good to see the return of these purple fellows. Canada,Geotagged,Pisaster ochraceus,Purple sea star,Summer

  • Ghost Plant, Indian Pipe, (Monotropa uniflora) Finally, a chance to photograph a beautiful specimen of this very interesting plant. Last year’s stalks are clearly visible behind this year’s. Unfortunately my favourite site where there were numerous plants had been “harvested” with every above ground plant part cut at ground level. Perhaps this article, https://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/sites/default/files/donahue_sean_-_ghost_pipe-_a_little_known_nervine.pdf ,may be the explanation. My only hope is that they return next year. Canada,Geotagged,Ghost Plant,Monotropa uniflora,Summer

  • Ghost Tiger Beetle My favourite insect is the Tiger Beetle, not only are they the fastest insect in the world, they are known for their aggressive predatory habits. This Ghost Tiger Beetle (Ellipsoptera lepida) blended so perfectly in the white sand that he lived up to his name, Ghost. Found at the Larose Forest, Limoges, Ontario, Canada. Conservation Status: imperiled (N2N3) in Canada (NatureServe). Canada,Ellipsoptera lepida,Geotagged,Ghost Tiger Beetle,Larose Forest,Limoges,Ontario,Summer, imperiled species, lepida

  • A Mating Pair of Misumena vatia While enjoying lunch on our deck my wife pointed out the female crab spider on a blossom. Initially it was quite relaxed but when any sort of insect flew by it immediately stretched out its forelegs. After a time I noticed a smaller spider getting closer and closer till it started crawling over the female. Only then did I realize it was a male. The pair got tired of me watching and crawled into the darker recesses! Canada,Geotagged,Goldenrod crab spider,Misumena vatia
