      Still, a very cool national bird - much better than the usual eagles, etc. (it is also one of my favorites and I saw my first one in Israel!).

    5. Fantastic picture - Coquettes are amazing, I saw my first in Brazil a few years ago and I was mesmerized! I tried for a picture but none of them were any good, I can well imagine that you needed a thousand photos and several hours to get such a picture. Congratulations.

      Are you sure that this is a Cooper's? The lack of bars on the tail and the white breast is fairly untypical.

      Really interesting for the discussion of whether zebras are white with black stripes or black with white stripes. The extensive black on the back would suggest the latter, as you would expect mutations to remove the stripes, not the base color, but the face and legs seem to suggest the opposite - fascinating. Louis Leakey noted that Europeans in Africa described zebras as white with black stripes whereas the indigenous inhabitants described them as black with white stripes - cultural projection anyone?
