Appearance

The larvae of the species is white coloured with black dots.Length is about 10–12 mm. Head and pronotum are black, while elytra is bright red, with a black stain at the base. Some species come as orange coloured.

It can be distinguished from ''Chrysolina grossa'' by its shorter antennae and less estensive pronotum.

It feeds on plants of the Salicaceae species, especially ''Populus'' and ''willow'' species.

It is found in most Europe.
