Arta sp., Ivoloina park, Madagascar An odd find. Visually, it is as a good as identical to Arta statalis (Posturing Arta Moth), known to only occur in the Americas. This find would be extremely far out of range, yet the visual match is undeniably strong. <br />

I checked the other species in this genus, it doesn&#039;t help, they&#039;re all from the Americas. Africa,Geotagged,Ivoloina park,Madagascar,Madagascar 2019,Winter,World Click/tap to enlarge

  1. The similarities are definitely odd. It seems like a lot of the MDG are very similar to species that live nowhere near MDG. Perhaps they are just undocumented there or have undergone adaptive radiation from similar, yet distant, species. Posted 5 months ago
    1. I'm thinking in this example, the similarity is so strong that I can't imagine some kind of co-evolution going on. But then again, you never know. I'm just keeping in mind the poor documentation from MDG. Posted 5 months ago
      1. Yep, and that makes your observations so valuable! Posted 5 months ago
        1. Awww thank you. I still curse at the lost opportunity for being in the wrong season, but can't turn back time. Posted 5 months ago
          1. I can understand, but that makes your observations even MORE valuable because how many people are looking for moths during winter in MDG? But, yeah, it would be amazing to see what there is during the right season. Posted 5 months ago
