Günther’s Boafish (Stomias affinis) trawled from between the surface and 650 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico. G&uuml;nther&rsquo;s Boafish (Stomias affinis) is a dragonfish. A barbel extends from the lower jaw of the fish with a bioluminescent lure attached to the end.  The lure is used to draw in prey items, close to the tooth filled mouth.  Anything that comes in too close is dinner. This individual was trawled from between the surface and 650 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico.<br />

Stomias affinis is a barbeled dragonfish that occurs from equatorial to warm temperate waters.
