Black-backed jackal closeup in hunting pose on Ngorongoro crater floor
This isn't a true closeup, rather a large crop, so I had to sacrifice technical quality to bring out some detail on its head. Still I think this photo shows how well it blends into its environment.
The black-backed jackal is a canid native to two areas of Africa, separated by roughly 900 km.
One region includes the southernmost tip of the continent, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. The other area is along the eastern coastline, including Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
