  1. While out digging for sapphires in central queensland this striated pardalote decided to move into my hole and dig himself a new nest....happy to share we sat side by side and dug away what is really amazing is how good he could dig the layer of wash has been dated at a million years old is very compact and tough to dig but that didnt phase him one bit getting purchase on a tree root he dug himself a nice deep nest hole all under supervision of the female sitting on a branch overhead ...it was a wonderful experience to share the dig with a wild bird only a foot away we dug side by side....brilliant!
