  1. Dear all,

Spring is in the air, and hereby we're opening a new contest that will run from now (March 28) until April 30, 2015. The contest is open to all, and entry is free. The price is 100$ in cash for the best wildlife photographer on JungleDragon during said period. Please carefully read the rules below to understand how the contest works and what the rules are!

If you've participated before, note that this contest is different from previous contests. This is not a best photo contest, this is a best wildlife photographer contest. Your performance during the entire month will be judged. Below are the criteria that count:

    1. The quality of your photos
As always, the technical quality of your photography matters. Here's some inspiration from the previous contest:

    2. The quantity of your photos
The amount of photos that you submit during the month matters. Note however that it only counts if you share your photos in the correct way. Submitting hundreds of poorly described photos will not help you in the contest. You are expected to describe your photos the "JungleDragon" way. This article explains the process:

The key take away: describe the species and location of your photo, otherwise it simply will not count. Make photos educational and rich in context.

    3. The pioneering value of your photos
At JungleDragon we map photos to species and locations. The contest will take into account how much you are expanding our content base, in other words, if you're sharing photos of species that are new to the site, they have extra value. The same is true for photos taken in locations that are yet unmapped at JungleDragon.

    4. How you interact with others
JungleDragon is a community where we help each other in sharing wildlife, for example by identifying species. If you go beyond just your own photos and engage in the community, this is seen as a bonus in the contest.

The above 4 factors will decide who is the best wildlife photographer at the end of the month. It will be judged by jury, and announced here.

During the contest, the normal rules for sharing photos apply, which are:

    1. You must be the copyright owner of the photos you submit, meaning you took the photo. Stealing photos will lead to disqualification and a ban.

    2. Your photos must be on topic. This is a wildlife photography website, and so is this contest. Do NOT post photos of people, objects or buildings. They will be deleted. Allowed: photos of natural landscapes, animals, plants and fungi in the wild, in zoos, and in your garden. Pet photos are not allowed.

    3. Do not dump photos. On this site we share photos with care. The following article explains how:

    4. Do not share large series of near-duplicates. Instead, select a few best ones of the spotting, and share those.

    5. Watermarks and frames allowed, but please keep them subtle.

    6. Post a minimum resolution of 1024 pixels at the longest edge, higher is better.

    7. Your photos are subject to the normal Terms and Conditions that apply on the site ( Summarizing these conditions: your photos remain yours, yet you grant us the right to display them with attribution to you on this website, and sometimes on related channels, such as JungleDragon's Twitter account.

The prize money is 100 USD in cash. The winner will get this money wired via Paypal or IBAN. Make sure that you have either of those two possibilities set up in order to receive the money.

Finally, how to participate in the contest: all you need to do is to post a comment in this thread. After that you are in the contest.

    Good luck, and have fun!

  59. Final post on this thread: after closing the contest, the winner is now announced:

As said, keep an eye on the forum for the opening of the May contest!

  60. You say the contest will close in 4 hours and than you close it 3 hours later... Replied 3 years ago
  61. The hour will not make any difference Wildflower, the contest judges across the entire month. Furthermore it was opened far before the 1st of the month. Replied 3 years ago
  62. It makes the difference for the 8 species intros not being taken into account. I identified them and created a couple of them manually within that one hour. It was my mistake that I wasted my time earlier to identify species on other member's photos and left mine for the last minute. Replied 3 years ago
  63. And that still wouldn't have changed the outcome of the contest. "Wasting" your time identifying photos of others is complete nonsense in a contest that lasted 33 full days. Replied 3 years ago
