Towards the sun Chameleons are cold blooded, and therefore they are always looking for sunny spots to heat their bodies. Even at night, you will find them in the warmest places (or the least cold places), typically the vegetation last touched by the sun. This is a valuable tip in Madagascar on night spotting tours along the roads. The bushes on the side of the road last touched by the sun will likely have chameleons whilst the opposite site of the road has none.
