Split Second

Split Second I was going to shoot the flowers, when she came.. I saw the butterfly through my viewfinder and I knew I had to shoot it right away. When the mirror flipped down again, she was gone. I later saw the photo, and to my surprise, there she was, with spread wings, as if posing for the camera. Butterfly,Heliconius charithonia,Mexico,Zebra Longwing, flower, flowers

Frontpage?! Wow, many thanks!! I've been looking for the name since I posted the picture here, as well as the black dragonfly's, but haven't had much luck.

The "Species" information thingy is really useful, I liked it a lot, that's why now I want to tag as many as I can of my photos with the correct animal or plant =]

    Frontpage spot well deserved!

It looks identical to the Zebra Longwing (Heliconius charithonia), except for the green hue on the body. For so long I have identified it as the zebra longwing, but it can be that it has a family member which does have that green hue.

Wow, it's even on a similar flower!! [the one in the species description]
I don't have the raw file at hand, but I'm fairly certain that's the correct colour, if not a just more saturated. I took this in Mexico, if that makes any difference..
