This is a development-teaser only, not yet available on the live site. As you can see, that example photo has a specie identified ("polar bear"), and as a result, a summary of information about that specie is displayed in the right sidebar.
That specie information is coming from Wikipedia, which I cut into structured pieces and revisualize in the sidebar. The sidebar is just a summary, I actually have a lot more useful data about the specie.
This functionality is a big deal for JungleDragon in the future, so I'm highly curious what you first impressions are, even though this is an early stage teaser only?
The biggest argument on this is a lack of consistent data on Wikipedia. I share your pain in trying to parse this as I had to do something similar for a client many years ago. The naming convention will certainly trip a lot of people up and may be a cause for confusion. I think these automatic identification entries will have to be checked afterwards. I volunteer!

Thanks, Dragon! Indeed, this has several challenges:
1) Getting people to do it in the first place
2) A certain % of well-intended tries will fail because:
----- Wikipedia has no entry
----- The entry is not specific enough
----- There is a problem on my part
Still, I find the value to be so great that I will do what it takes to get the specie identified at the majority of the photos. And yes, I could certainly use your help for that!
By the way, I may mix in additional specie data sources in the future, such as EOL.
I thought "End of Life", happily it's something else in this case...;-)
But, on topic, it already looks great and can't wait to see it in production! Another source you might want to look at for additional information on species in The Netherlands is "www.waarneming.nl". I quit often use when I go scouting for a particular animal. It's a cooperative site on which everybody can commit an entry on where that specie was spotted. So many nice photographs of species here I one day will want to get in front of the lens.
But, as stated before, the background information on (most of) the species would be a very, very nice feature!! Keep up the good work!!
Request for community feedback on specie teaser
hi there wildlife friends,
Some of you know I'm working on adding specie information to JungleDragon, but many may not. It's hard work yet I'm making great progress.
Recently I published a small teaser on my blog, here it is:

Looking forward to your response!

Looks good - quite promising! I suppose it's lots of work, but I'm looking forward to the result...
So good courage to you, Ferdy!
Thanks!

EOL? Being a computer geek I instantly think of "End of Line".
Me too, initially :) Encyclopedia Of Life.

Thanks for the compliments, Kurt, that really motivates me.
The site you mention is great, thanks for sharing it. However, it is unlikely suitable for automated specie information, for two reasons:
- It's not in english
- It doesn't have an API. The sources I will use need to have programmatic access to data.
Hi guys, I just wanted to bump this thread by showing you a second teaser:

What do you think?
Awesome. As always. :)
Thanks Dragon, that means a lot.
